Fruit Bomb (or Fruchte Bombe) uses a combination of 2D and 3D animation. The dynamic and fast paced action required a fluid camera movement. To get the most impact, we decided to use 3D backgrounds and camera moves. This gave more dimension to the action and allowed for more adventurous animation and cutting.
The 3D background animation was completed first and then passed to the character animators who used the 3D material as if it was Live Action, matching their characters motion to the scene.

Once the 2D animation was completed, it was coloured and traced on our computer systems and taken back into the 3D application (Alias Power Animator) for the animation of the fruit to be added. The fruit had already been animated with the characters, so the 3D animators had to match this animation with the final fruit models.
The backgrounds and fruit (3D) were then final rendered and moved over to our integration system for compositing with the finished character animation. All motion blurs were hand painted on Discreet Logic Flint.
